It seems spring has FINALLY sprung, and Easter weekend my husband and I were able to plant some seeds in our garden. After not planting a garden at all last year and failing at container gardening the year before, we brought back the old square foot garden this year.
We planted some tomatoes, sugar snap peas, onions, lettuce mix, and a variety of carrots. Now we wait and see whether we will see some plants, or whether the birds will eat our seeds. Since we moved four years ago, we have never had a successful garden, so this is an experiment.
On a positive note, the Seeds of Change basil and cilantro I planted last month are doing well! I have some nice looking sprouts in my window sill, and I really need to transplant them outside soon. The fact that my little herbs sprouted was a huge surprise, as we haven’t had much sunshine coming through that window at all. We’re having a rainier than typical spring, and sunshine has been in short supply.
I really hope our garden takes off this year! Having a good supply of fresh, organic produce in my backyard will go a long way in my efforts to eat healthier. There’s nothing like a home grown salad!
Have you planted your garden yet? What are you growing?
