Holy smoke! This week passed by entirely too quickly! We celebrated Father’s Day, my daughter took a trip to Six Flags in California, we almost died of thirst finding our first letterbox, and I celebrated my 29th birthday…again. Forever young, I say!
And now for a little bit about myself. It’s time for 5 Question Friday, hosted by Mama M! To play along, visit her blog, My Little Life, for the rules. Here we go!

Question #1: Do you know how to play a musical instrument?
Why yes, I do! I began playing the flute in 5th grade. I really, really wanted to play in the band, but my family couldn’t afford to buy an instrument, so I borrowed my aunt’s flute. It had definitely seen better days, but I was so excited about learning to play, I didn’t care.
Problem. For the first week I could not get a sound out of that flute. I was the only girl in the flute section who couldn’t play. It was devastating! But I persevered, and eventually I was able to play. I loved playing so much, I’d practice sometimes two hours a day.
After 8th grade, my parents were finally convinced that my flute-playing wasn’t a passing interest, so they bought me a brand-spankin’-new flute for my 8th grade graduation! I was so excited!
Unfortunately I wasn’t so excited about my 9th grade band director. After one year of high school band, I quit. All was not lost, though. I still occasionally play. And this year Stargirl joined the band and plays my flute.
Question #2: What is your pet peeve while driving?
Oh this is easy. Slow drivers.
No, it’s not because I grew up in California, where going 80 is barely keeping up with traffic!
And no, I don’t mind people who are only traveling the speed limit. In fact I try to drive behind cars going exactly the speed limit. That way my California background doesn’t get me in trouble!
But here’s the deal. I live out in the country, where the speed limit is 45. When I need to get to an appointment in town, I figure that I’ll be driving 45. So when I get behind a car going 25, I get a little testy. Especially since there’s usually a cell phone involved. Wait. That’s two pet peeves.
Question #3: Would you rather have a housekeeper or unlimited spa services?
Another easy one. I don’t have time to clean my house, much less find time for spa services. I’ll take the housekeeper.
Question #4: Is there a song that you hear that will take you back to the moment, like a junior high or high school dance?
Not really. The best I’ve got is I Can’t Fight This Feeling Anymore by REO Speedwagon. It takes me back to junior high, only because of all the dedications. We had this school newspaper, and in one section you could dedicate a song to your special someone. Every other dedication was I Can’t Fight This Feeling Anymore. It got kind of old.
Wait, did I just admit how old I really am?
Question #5: What song best represents your life right now?
Oooh. Tough one. I’m going to have to go with Somewhere in the Middle by Casting Crowns. I’m constantly stuck in a battle between giving my all to God and taking a little control back for myself. I’m a work in progress, moving in the right direction, but I still struggle.
Somewhere between the hot and the cold
Somewhere between the new and the old
Somewhere between who I am and who I used to be
Somewhere in the middle, You’ll find meSomewhere between the wrong and the right
Somewhere between the darkness and the light
Somewhere between who I was and who You’re making me
Somewhere in the middle, You’ll find me.
Somewhere between who I was and who you’re making me…yep, that’s me. He’s begun a good work in me, and I know he’ll be faithful to complete it. Until that day, I’ll keep pressing on.
Have a fabulous weekend!
