Over Memorial Day weekend we gathered up our family and our close friends and headed to the beach for some camping and family bonding time. Despite the ominous forecast of rain, we wanted to unplug from the electronics and busyness of everyday life. We braved the rainy weather and headed to Bullard’s Beach State Park near Bandon, Oregon.
We arrived on Friday evening and found that despite the forecast, the weather was cool and overcast, but there was no rain. We set up our brand new tent, lovingly referred to as our Tent Taj Mahal.

It was a bargain at Costco and seriously the best tent we’ve ever owned.
We spent our mornings and evenings relaxing at camp. The boys mostly played ball.

We girls spent a lot of time having “Girl Talks.” You know, those rare moments when you get your teenage girl to put down the iPod and actually talk. It was really nice. Even Boo participated.
During the day we went to the Wild Game Park. We were able to mix it up amongst the animals.

We even got up close and personal with a baby lion, a baby bear, and a baby black leopard. I love the Wild Game Park!

We also spent a fair amount of time at the beach. I don’t know how the boys did it, but they were playing right in the cold Oregon ocean!

The girls explored the lighthouse, where it was a little bit warmer.

Another day we took time to tour Old Town Bandon. I don’t have any pictures of that. I was too busy snacking on the free samples of candy at the Cranberry Sweets shop. I don’t know how they stay in business, because they give out so many free samples! I’m not complaining, though.
We ended our weekend by ordering some fish and chips from the Bandon Fish Market and Chowder House. Yum!
Despite the dirt, the rain, and the work of setting up and tearing down camp, we love camping for the great memories it provides our family. I can’t wait for our next trip, when we explore Honeyman State Campground near Florence, OR!

Wow! I remember having a lion cub in my lap at that place. It was rather squirmy, because, according to the zookeeper, it needed to go to the bathroom, haha. I miss the Southern Oregon Coast so badly!
