I’m leaving town today. I’ll only be gone three days, but it’s going to be a long three days. You see, it’s the first time since Baby Boo moved in that I’m leaving her behind.

I remember the first time I left Stargirl. She was a year old, and I went to a weekend women’s retreat. I had a good time, but I couldn’t stop thinking about how Stargirl was doing without me. She was in Sportsguy’s capable hands, of course, but I couldn’t imagine my baby at home without me…her mommy!
I also remember the first time I left Bug. He was probably about 2. Sportsguy and I headed to the coast for our anniversary, leaving Bug and Stargirl in the hands of my mother-in-law and sister-in-law. Of course the kids had a great time, but even the beach couldn’t stop me from worrying about the kids.
And today I leave Boo. I’m headed across the country, and it will probably be the longest three days of my life, even though I’m looking forward to the trip. Boo will be well taken care of by Sportsgy, Stargirl, Bug, and her grandparents.
Even so, I’m sure I will be calling home when I reach Denver for a layover, and again when I reach Arkansas. I’m certain I’ll be calling home every time I get a chance.
And even though I’m arriving home after Boo’s bedtime Thursday night, I’m sure I’ll sneak into her room to give her a big kiss! Going away is hard, but homecomings are the sweetest.
